Look for the following items on an Energy Saving Bulb to know if you are getting the BEST made and BEST quality available:

LUMENS:
Higher the better
Compare the LUMENS (Bulb's Brightness) per manufacturer for the same wattage. You will want the HIGHEST Lumen output.

BULB LIFE:
Longer the better
Compare the Bulb's Life per manufacturer.
The LONGER the better... 10,000 to 12,000 hours are better.
The best is 15,000 hours.

COLOR OF LIGHT:
Must match
your Decor
Warm or Cool

If you have earth colors (brown, yellow, green) in your room, you want a bulb that gives you
matching WARM Color Light.
(Warm color light just like the light from Incandescents)

If you have cool colors (blue, silver metal trim) in a bathroom, you want a bulb that gives you
matching COOL Color Light.

Check the Bulb's box to see how the
Bulb's Light Color is shown:
WARM Color = soft white or yellow flame or 2,700 Kelvin
COOL Color = day light, blue sun or 6,500 Kelvin

BULB SIZE:
Smaller the better

Note overall size of the bulb in length and width.
SMALLER the better to avoid problems with fitting into
your light fixtures at home.

CRI:
Color Rendering Index
Higher the better
If the CRI data is on the box and that is a BIG if;
Higher the number the better. In the 80's is very good.
Avoid bulbs with a CRI in the 60s or 70s

WARRANTY:
Longer the better
A Warranty of at least 90 days. A year would be great,
15 months is better and the best we have seen: 2 yrs.
